HM King Mohammed VI grants royal pardon to 681 individuals for Eid Al Mawlid
His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco has granted a royal pardon to 681 individuals as part of the Eid Al Mawlid celebrations, which the country is set to mark on Friday. The announcement was made in a statement by the Ministry of Justice.
Royal pardons are a customary tradition in Morocco, especially during national and religious occasions. This year’s pardon includes both prisoners and individuals at liberty, reflecting the monarch’s gesture of compassion and goodwill on this significant religious holiday.
Breakdown of pardons
Among the beneficiaries, 488 are currently detained. Of these, 12 individuals received a full pardon for the remainder of their prison terms, while 476 had their sentences reduced. Additionally, 193 individuals who are not in detention benefited from the royal clemency. This group includes 65 people who received either a full pardon or a reduction of their remaining prison terms.
Furthermore, nine individuals were pardoned for their prison sentences but remain obligated to pay fines. In another category, 103 people had their fines annulled, while 16 beneficiaries received pardons for both imprisonment and fines.
Eid Al Mawlid celebrations
The celebrations of Eid Al Mawlid, commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, were marked by HM King Mohammed VI presiding over a religious ceremony at the Hassan Mosque in Rabat. During the event, the king presented awards to individuals recognized for Quran memorization and excellence in Islamic studies.
The monarch also extended congratulatory messages to leaders of Islamic countries, expressing warm wishes for health, prosperity, and peace.
