Germany pledges €212 million in aid for Sudan at Berlin conference
Germany has announced a new humanitarian aid package worth €212 million to support Sudan, as global leaders gathered in Berlin to address the worsening crisis in the country. The pledge was revealed during the Third International Sudan Conference, which aims to mobilize more than $1 billion in funding to respond to urgent humanitarian needs.
Speaking at the conference, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized the importance of coordinated international action to alleviate the suffering of civilians affected by ongoing instability in Sudan. He highlighted Germany’s commitment to supporting relief efforts, particularly in areas facing severe shortages of food, healthcare, and basic services.
Sudan has been grappling with a deep humanitarian crisis, driven by prolonged conflict, economic instability, and large-scale displacement. Millions of people are in need of assistance, with humanitarian organizations warning of deteriorating conditions if additional support is not secured.
The Berlin conference brings together international donors, policymakers, and humanitarian agencies to strengthen cooperation and ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable populations. Germany’s contribution is seen as a significant step toward bridging the funding gap and encouraging other countries to increase their commitments.
As the situation in Sudan remains critical, the international community continues to stress the urgency of sustained financial support and diplomatic engagement to help stabilize the country and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
