German auto wire manufacturer expands Moroccan footprint with new Agadir facility
German manufacturing company Leoni has inaugurated a new automotive wiring systems factory in Agadir, Morocco, representing an investment of MAD 230 million. The facility, situated in the Souss-Massa industrial acceleration zone, was officially opened on Tuesday under the supervision of Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.
The production unit spans 7.6 hectares, with over 19,000 square meters dedicated to manufacturing operations. The expansion is projected to generate more than 3,000 direct jobs by 2027, which will bring Leoni's total workforce in Morocco to approximately 19,000 employees.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Akhannouch emphasized how this investment reinforces Morocco's standing in the global automotive sector. He noted that Leoni's confidence in Morocco reflects the country's growing automotive industry under King Mohammed VI's leadership, making it an increasingly attractive destination for international automotive companies.
Akhannouch highlighted that the project aligns with Agadir's emergence as an industrial center, complementing the city's modern infrastructure, logistics capabilities, and vocational training systems tailored to business needs.
Leoni CEO Ingo Spengler underscored the factory's strategic significance, describing it as a testament to the company's commitment to Morocco. The choice of Agadir for expansion demonstrates Leoni's confidence in Morocco's potential and Africa's increasing economic dynamism, according to Spengler. He added that the new facility would enhance Leoni's competitiveness in the commercial automotive sector.
