France calls for Lebanon to be included in ceasefire framework
France has called for Lebanon to be fully included in the scope of the recent ceasefire agreement between United States and Iran, stressing the need for broader regional stability.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot emphasized that limiting the ceasefire to a single front would not be sufficient to reduce tensions across the region. He argued that extending the agreement to Lebanon is essential to prevent further escalation and ensure lasting peace.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where cross-border incidents and military actions have raised concerns about a wider conflict. France has expressed particular concern over recent strikes and their potential to destabilize the fragile security environment.
Paris is also urging renewed diplomatic efforts, including negotiations aimed at addressing broader issues such as missile programs, regional security, and the role of armed groups. Officials believe that a comprehensive approach is necessary to achieve meaningful and durable outcomes.
In addition, France has called for guarantees related to maritime security, including the safe passage of vessels through strategic waterways. Ensuring stability in key shipping routes is considered vital for both regional and global economic interests.
As international actors push for de-escalation, the inclusion of Lebanon in diplomatic arrangements is seen as a critical step toward reducing risks and fostering a more stable Middle East.
