Firmus Technologies partners with Nvidia to expand affordable AI computing infrastructure
Australian AI infrastructure provider Firmus Technologies has entered into a strategic partnership with Nvidia aimed at making high-performance computing more accessible to emerging artificial intelligence companies while expanding AI cloud capacity across the Asia-Pacific region. Under the agreement, Firmus Technologies will purchase Nvidia's advanced computing infrastructure and deliver cloud services powered by the US chipmaker's technology. The collaboration is designed to support a broad range of customers, particularly AI-native startups and rapidly growing technology companies seeking access to large-scale computing resources at competitive costs. A key component of the partnership is the planned deployment of 170,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) between the first quarter of 2027 and early 2028. The computing infrastructure will be housed in Batam, Indonesia, where it is expected to serve regional and international customers requiring high-performance AI capabilities. Firmus Technologies projects that the agreement could generate up to $30 billion in revenue during its first six years, based on existing customer commitments. The company believes the initiative will help reduce one of the biggest barriers facing smaller AI developers: the high cost of acquiring and operating advanced computing infrastructure. According to Firmus co-Chief Executive Officer Tim Rosenfield, the partnership seeks to narrow the competitive gap between established technology giants and emerging AI innovators. Large corporations often benefit from easier access to financing and computing capacity, while younger companies face significant capital constraints when scaling AI applications. The agreement also strengthens an existing relationship between the two companies. Nvidia has previously participated in Firmus Technologies' fundraising rounds, making the semiconductor leader an investor in the Australian company as well as a strategic technology partner. Earlier this year, Firmus Technologies announced that it had secured $1.35 billion in funding over a six-month period, resulting in a post-money valuation of $5.5 billion. The company has also attracted market attention following reports that it has engaged investment banks to explore a potential initial public offering, although executives have declined to comment on those plans. The partnership reflects the accelerating global demand for AI infrastructure as organizations across industries increase investments in generative AI, machine learning and high-performance computing. By combining Nvidia's hardware leadership with Firmus Technologies' cloud platform, the companies aim to broaden access to enterprise-grade AI resources while supporting the next generation of artificial intelligence innovators.
