Fez Tourism: Oldentic digitalizes local experiences to meet new traveler expectations

Incubated under the digital incubation program of the Moroccan Society for Tourism Engineering (SMIT), the startup Oldentic has officially launched Morocco’s first digital platform exclusively dedicated to experiential tourism. The initiative aims to structure and digitalize cultural immersion offerings, connecting artisans, creators, and local tourism operators with the growing flow of international travelers.

The tourism sector is undergoing a major transformation in consumer behavior. According to Expedia Group’s Traveler Value Index, more than 40% of travelers now choose their destination based on the experiences offered, with accommodation becoming a secondary factor. This shift is redefining tourism value chains and accelerating the demand for high-quality, experience-based offerings.

Positioning itself as a technological catalyst, Oldentic seeks to align Morocco’s tourism offer with evolving global market expectations. The platform transforms local know-how—often informal and fragmented—into structured, standardized, and online-bookable tourism products, significantly enhancing their visibility and accessibility.

The project’s rollout begins with a pilot phase in Fez, a city renowned for its rich intangible cultural heritage. This phase is based on a rigorous methodology, including more than 100 user interviews and on-the-ground support aimed at professionalizing and structuring local tourism experiences.

At the core of Oldentic’s business model is a value-sharing approach that benefits the local economy. Between 70% and 80% of the revenue generated through the platform is redistributed directly to artisans, guides, and cultural operators, positioning Oldentic as a lever for economic inclusion and territorial income diversification.

Supported by SMIT in refining its strategic positioning, the startup has ambitious growth targets aligned with Morocco’s national tourism dynamics. Oldentic aims to attract 300,000 travelers by 2026, with a gradual scale-up to 2.8 million users by 2030, driven by the accelerating digitalization of tourism and the hosting of major international events.

“Experiential tourism represents a major strategic opportunity for Morocco. Our solution monetizes local know-how while responding to travelers’ growing demand for authenticity. It is a technological bridge between tradition and the global market,” said Zakaria Loulidy, founder of Oldentic.

Following the consolidation of its model in Fez, the platform plans to expand across other regions of the Kingdom.
