Indian, Spanish PM discuss trade and digital partnerships in New Delhi
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in New Delhi on Wednesday to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, digital technology, and sustainability.
The discussions coincided with Sanchez's visit to India for the AI Impact Summit 2026. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, both leaders explored ways to enhance cooperation across several sectors, including economic development, health, climate action, education, and technological innovation.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted Spain's consistent support for robust India-European Union relations, while both sides emphasized the potential for collaborative projects in AI research and ethical innovation.
Spain ranks as India’s sixth-largest trading partner within the European Union, with bilateral trade in goods totaling $9.32 billion in 2024.
In addition, Modi held talks with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, focusing on sustainability initiatives, digitalization, and leveraging Indian expertise for joint AI and technology projects aimed at responsible and talent-driven innovation.
