Farmers’ protests in Paris deemed “Unacceptable” by French government
The French government has strongly condemned recent actions carried out by protesting farmers in the Paris region, describing them as illegal and warning that authorities will not allow such demonstrations to continue.
On Thursday, government spokesperson Maud Bregeon stated that road blockages and attempts to approach symbolic political institutions crossed a legal line. Speaking to national media, she emphasized that public order must be maintained, regardless of the grievances expressed by demonstrators.
Farmers have mobilized in several parts of the country to voice their anger over declining incomes, rising production costs and concerns about international trade agreements, particularly the proposed Mercosur deal. In the Paris area, tractors were used to block major roads, disrupting traffic and drawing significant public attention.
According to the government, while the concerns of the agricultural sector are acknowledged, protest actions that involve blocking highways or targeting sensitive political sites cannot be tolerated. The Interior Ministry, officials said, has been instructed to prevent any escalation.
The standoff highlights the growing tension between farmers and public authorities, as the sector continues to demand stronger protections and clearer guarantees in the face of global competition and regulatory pressures.
