EU energy ministers plan coordinated response to Iran conflict
European Union energy ministers are scheduled to meet on Tuesday to discuss a coordinated response to disruptions in oil and gas markets caused by the ongoing conflict involving Iran, according to an internal EU briefing.
Europe’s heavy dependence on energy imports has exposed it to rising prices since the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route, was effectively closed and Iranian attacks targeted energy infrastructure in the Middle East.
The EU document guiding the talks asks ministers to propose concrete measures to manage tightening oil and gas markets collectively. Officials are expected to focus on filling gas storage ahead of next winter, stabilizing oil product markets, and maintaining short-term energy security.
While European supplies are considered secure in the immediate term, thanks to imports from Norway and the United States, officials warned against fragmented national responses that could send disruptive signals to the market.
