Dortmund: A German-Tunisian Septuagenarian Shot by Police After a Medical Crisis
A 70-year-old man of German-Tunisian origin was fatally shot by police in Dortmund on Friday afternoon after exhibiting aggressive behavior toward paramedics attempting to transport him to the hospital.
According to the Dortmund prosecutor’s office, the man had suffered an epileptic seizure at home. His partner alerted emergency services, who arrived while he was still experiencing convulsions. Upon regaining consciousness, he reportedly refused medical assistance and became hostile toward the responders.
Preliminary findings indicate that he grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened the emergency vehicle’s driver, prompting paramedics to call the police for support. As he advanced toward the officers while wielding the knife, a 24-year-old officer fired a shot, striking him in the abdomen. The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
An investigation is underway to clarify the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
