Benguerir - Amidst the accelerating pace of climate change, the prestigious Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) recently hosted its annual Science Week, drawing attention to the intricate nexus between our warming planet and the looming threats to air quality, public health, and societal stability.

Renowned scientist Guy Brasseur delivered a compelling call to action, emphasizing that "scientific evidence over the past two decades unequivocally demonstrates the disturbing trajectory of our planet." While the effects of climate change reverberate globally, Brasseur cautioned that Africa might bear a disproportionate burden of its consequences.

Echoing Brasseur's urgent appeal, Kenza Khoamsi, an air quality expert from Morocco's meteorological service, underscored the imperative for sustainable transitions in developing nations. Similarly, Paolo Laj, a senior scientist from Grenoble Alpes University, drew attention to the deadly toll of air pollution, citing statistics from the World Health Organization that indicate millions of lives are lost annually due to this pervasive threat.

However, amidst these sobering realities, UM6P's Science Week instilled a sense of optimism by showcasing the power of knowledge and collaboration in steering towards a more sustainable future. French sociologist Raphael Liogier aptly noted, "The transition transcends mere evolution; it signifies a profound recalibration of our collective trajectory."

By shedding light on the interconnected nature of these threats, UM6P's forum not only sounded a warning bell but also served as a catalyst for transformative action. With the specter of climate disaster looming large, this urgent call for action resonates now more than ever.
