Casablanca Cyber Extortion Suspect Arrested for Threatening Public Order

The National Bureau for Combating Terrorism and Organized Crime, operating under the National Judicial Police Brigade, apprehended a call center employee in Casablanca. The arrest was conducted in close coordination with the services of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance. The suspect was detained on suspicion of participating in cyber extortion and making threats to disrupt public order.

The General Directorate of National Security released the following statement: "Preliminary investigation data suggests that this 42-year-old individual is suspected of sending emails to various hotels, service providers, and educational institutions in Morocco and abroad, wherein he demands sums of money in exchange for preventing false threats of terrorist attacks against them."

The suspect's arrest in Casablanca followed thorough field investigations and technical expertise. It was revealed that the emails sent contained the bank account number of a Moroccan national residing overseas. The sender aimed to exact vengeance on the expatriate for disagreements that had arisen during previous business dealings, according to the same source.

The investigations in this case led to the confiscation of computer hardware and digital storage media. Currently, these items are undergoing analysis by technical professionals to identify potential evidence associated with the aforementioned criminal activities.

The statement concluded that the suspect was apprehended to finalize the ongoing judicial investigation under the guidance of the competent public prosecutor's office, aiming to clarify every aspect of this case.
