At least 21 killed in fireworks factory explosion in India

At least 21 people were killed and five others were injured on Tuesday following an explosion at an illegal fireworks factory in India, authorities confirmed. The blast scattered debris, including body parts, stones, and metal fragments, across a wide area surrounding the industrial complex in the city of Disa, located in Gujarat, northwest India.

Rishikesh Patel, a spokesperson for the state government, stated that the explosion was so powerful it caused the concrete roof of the factory to collapse. The factory, operating without proper licenses, is under investigation by authorities. Earlier reports indicated that at least 18 people had died.

District government official, Mihir Patel, described the explosion as exceptionally strong, with body parts found up to 200-300 meters away from the site, in a nearby farm.

This tragic event follows similar incidents in the past. In 2023, 11 people died in a fireworks factory explosion in Madhya Pradesh. In 2019, another explosion claimed the lives of 18 people in a fireworks factory in Batala, Punjab, and another 10 in Badhoi, Uttar Pradesh, under similar circumstances.
