1.5 tons of cannabis resin seized in Midelt province

Security forces in Morocco have seized approximately 1.5 tons of cannabis resin during a nighttime operation in the province of Midelt, according to local authorities.

The intervention was carried out by members of the Royal Gendarmerie assigned to the territorial brigade of Imilchil. The operation took place in the locality of Agdal, within the commune of Bouzmou, in the Imilchil district.

Authorities reported that the narcotics were concealed inside two vehicles — a pickup truck and a light car — intercepted during the operation. The seizure forms part of ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking networks operating in remote and mountainous areas.

Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend the individuals involved. Law enforcement officials stated that coordinated field operations and intelligence gathering continue in order to dismantle trafficking routes in the region.

Midelt province, located in the Atlas Mountains, has periodically been the focus of anti-smuggling campaigns due to its geographic position linking various regions of the country. Moroccan authorities have intensified surveillance and patrols in recent years as part of a broader national strategy to curb illicit trafficking.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security operations aimed at preserving public safety and disrupting criminal networks.
