Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, participated in the inaugural annual High-Level Meeting of the "Partnership for Green Education" initiative. The event was organized by UNESCO and the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates, held within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.
Upon her arrival at the "House of Sustainability" in the Green Zone, Princess Lalla Hasnaa was welcomed by Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, His Excellency Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education of the United Arab Emirates, Stefania Giannini, Deputy Director-General of Education at UNESCO, and Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui, Emirati Minister of Community Development and Youth Climate Champion.
Princess Lalla Hasnaa held discussions with Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui, in the presence of His Excellency Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi on the Emirati side, and Mr. Benmoussa and Nouzha Alaoui, Secretary-General of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, on the Moroccan side.
Later, Princess Lalla Hasnaa participated in the opening of the High-Level Special Session, "Partnership for Green Education," which commenced with statements from representatives of the World Scout Movement and UNICEF.
During the high-level panel on preparing each learner for climate change, Princess Lalla Hasnaa shared the stage with the Minister of Education of the United Arab Emirates and the Deputy Director-General of UNESCO for Education. This session included the participation of Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui and other distinguished personalities.
Princess Lalla Hasnaa was invited to address the first annual meeting of the "Partnership for Green Education," launched in September 2022 during the UN Summit for Education Transformation in New York. The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection actively participated in this initiative.
In her address, Princess Lalla Hasnaa highlighted the concrete, continuous, and fruitful actions of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection in sustainable development education through programs carried out for the past 20 years in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports.
Princess Lalla Hasnaa emphasized the Foundation's initiatives to mobilize and unite young people in Africa through the "African Youth Climate Hub" and the "African Green Universities and Youth Education Network." Several members of these initiatives are actively engaged at COP28, representing the voice of the Global South, thanks to the Foundation and its partners.
Following the opening session, Princess Lalla Hasnaa visited the "Greening Education Hub," where she received a presentation on the objectives and impact of the "Partnership for Green Education" in the Emirati education system. The program is structured around four pillars of transformative education.
Before departing, Princess Lalla Hasnaa posed for a group photo with the Young Environmental Reporters representing the 12 regions of the Kingdom. It is worth noting that the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection focuses on environmental education and awareness. Its primary target is the youth, aligning with the conviction of its President, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, who believes that shaping the environmental consciousness of future generations is one of the most powerful levers for sustainable development.
