French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron will conduct a three-day state visit to Morocco from October 28-30, marking a significant step in strengthening Franco-Moroccan bilateral relations. The visit comes at the personal invitation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, according to an announcement from Morocco's Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery.

The diplomatic engagement aims to reinforce the already robust partnership between the two nations, building on what officials describe as "strong and solid" bilateral foundations. This visit follows a recent shift in French foreign policy regarding Sahara, with France explicitly recognizing Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces.

In July, President Macron articulated France's position, stating that "The present and future of Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty." This alignment with Morocco's 2007 autonomy plan represents a significant diplomatic development in Franco-Moroccan relations.

The upcoming visit is expected to yield substantial cooperation agreements across multiple sectors. Notable among potential developments is a reported military hardware deal, with Morocco considering the purchase of 12 to 18 Caracal helicopters from Airbus Helicopters. According to La Tribune, this potential agreement could be valued between €600 and €800 million, potentially benefiting French industrial centers in Marignane and Borders.

This state visit emerges as both nations work to strengthen their strategic partnership, with the previous month seeing His Majesty King Mohammed VI extend a formal invitation to President Macron through a diplomatic letter expressing satisfaction with the "promising horizons" emerging between the two countries.
