Hamas and Islamic Jihad Claim Joint Responsibility for Tel Aviv Blast, Pledge Further Retaliation
In a dramatic turn of events, the armed wing of Hamas, known as the Qassam Brigades, has asserted responsibility for a bomb attack that rocked Tel Aviv on Sunday night. The group issued a statement declaring that the operation was executed in conjunction with the Al-Quds Brigades, the military arm of Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
The explosion, which occurred near a synagogue, claimed the life of the alleged perpetrator, who was discovered inside a vehicle laden with explosives. A bystander was moderately injured in the blast and subsequently received medical treatment. Israeli authorities have launched an investigation, classifying the incident as a terror attack. "This was a terror attack involving the detonation of a powerful explosive device," the police confirmed in an official statement.
The attack transpired shortly after the arrival of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Tel Aviv for discussions aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza, amid escalating fears of a wider regional conflict.
In their statement, the Qassam Brigades underscored their resolve to escalate retaliatory "martyrdom operations" in response to the ongoing Israeli assaults on civilians. "The Brigades affirm that martyrdom operations within the occupied territories will resume as long as the occupation's atrocities, civilian displacements, and assassination policies persist," the statement declared.
This latest incident unfolds against a backdrop of intensifying violence, with Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continuing their aggressive campaigns against Palestinians. The conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 individuals and left countless others injured. In recent weeks, the IOF have issued multiple evacuation orders in southern Gaza, forcing civilians into so-called "safe zones," which are later targeted in fresh assaults.
Tensions in the region have been further exacerbated by the assassinations of prominent figures from Hamas and Hezbollah, notably the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran. Although Israel has not claimed responsibility for this attack, it is widely believed to have been orchestrated by Israeli forces.
As the situation remains volatile, the international community watches with bated breath, hoping for a resolution that will bring an end to the escalating violence and restore a semblance of peace to the region.
