In a joint effort to de-escalate the intense conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the United States, the European Union, and a coalition of countries have proposed an immediate 21-day ceasefire. Blinken has been working tirelessly to secure support for the proposal from Arab and European countries, meeting with key diplomats and seeking their commitment.

The Biden administration has also been actively communicating with Israel and engaging in indirect talks with Hezbollah throughout the week. Blinken and senior adviser Amos Hochstein met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and further discussions are expected with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's senior adviser, Ron Dermer.
