Lebanese media union condemns strikes on Al-Manar and Al-Nour as Hezbollah vows to continue broadcasting
The Syndicate of Audiovisual Workers in Lebanon condemned overnight airstrikes targeting the headquarters of Al-Manar television and Al-Nour radio in Beirut’s southern suburbs, describing the attacks as a direct assault on media institutions.
The strikes hit Al-Manar’s headquarters in Haret Hreik and Al-Nour’s offices in the Madi district. Both outlets are affiliated with Hezbollah. In a statement released Tuesday, the union said the targeting of media organizations was intended to silence Lebanese coverage and obstruct reporting on violations committed during the ongoing hostilities.
The syndicate described the bombings as a deliberate attack on press freedom and a violation of international laws and conventions that guarantee the neutrality of media institutions and the protection of journalists in times of conflict. It expressed full solidarity with journalists and staff members of both outlets, stating that media workers in Lebanon would continue fulfilling their professional duty despite mounting pressures.
Hezbollah’s media office also condemned the strikes, calling them a criminal act aimed at suppressing what it described as the “voice and image of the resistance.” The group affirmed that both Al-Manar and Al-Nour would continue broadcasting, emphasizing that no attack would weaken their determination.
The developments come amid intensified Israeli air operations in Lebanon following rocket fire attributed to Hezbollah. The Israeli military has announced increased activity in southern Lebanon, citing security and defensive considerations. The escalation reflects broader regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
