Marrakech: A Vibrant Tourist Hub During Ramadan

Marrakech continues to thrive as a prime tourist destination in Morocco, even during the holy month of Ramadan. Known as the tourism capital of the country, the city remains a magnet for both local and international visitors. Far from slowing down tourism, this period offers a unique opportunity to experience the imperial city through a spiritual and cultural lens.

Whether visiting with family, friends, or in groups, Marrakech always welcomes its guests, day and night, offering a distinctive destination where rich heritage, hospitality, and spirituality blend in an authentic atmosphere.

Unlike other tourist spots in Morocco, Marrakech maintains a strong tourist activity throughout Ramadan. Its iconic sites remain open, and businesses continue their operations during the day and evening.

The Medina's narrow streets and vibrant souks are filled with a spiritual atmosphere, intertwined with age-old traditions. Famous squares, like Jamaa El Fna, transform into open-air dining spots, attracting visitors eager to savor local dishes prepared for the sacred month.

Night tours, traditional performances, and special activities such as communal iftars at notable landmarks further immerse visitors in Moroccan culture.

Mustapha Amalik, Secretary-General of the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), emphasized that Marrakech has solidified its status as Morocco's tourism capital, with continuous efforts from sector professionals. He added that Ramadan does not alter this, as both local and international visitors flock to the city during this period.

The Marrakech-Safi region maintains strong tourism throughout the year, with hotels and tourism professionals offering tailored services that appeal to all types of tourists during Ramadan. Many tourists choose to visit Marrakech during this sacred month to explore the city's spiritual and cultural sides, especially at night when the city is livelier and more welcoming.

During Ramadan, visitors enjoy a unique experience, sharing moments of spirituality and discovery with locals. According to Amalik, the month provides an opportunity for innovation in tourism, combining hospitality, solidarity, and spirituality in one enriched package.

Additionally, he noted that upcoming school holidays would positively impact domestic tourism in the city, supporting the growth of Morocco’s tourism sector.

International tourists have expressed their admiration for the warm and friendly atmosphere of Marrakech during Ramadan. They highlighted that the holy month offers a new perspective on the city.

With tailored offerings and the dedication of tourism professionals, Marrakech remains an attractive destination, drawing both foreign and local visitors year-round, including during Ramadan.
