Morocco-France: Rabat and Paris Strengthen Their Parliamentary Cooperation
The parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and France continues to deepen. Meeting on Thursday in Rabat, officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional dialogue to support the new dynamic characterizing Moroccan-French relations, marked by a reinforced strategic partnership.
The Vice-President of the House of Councillors, Lahcen Haddad, held talks with a high-level French parliamentary delegation on the sidelines of the official visit of French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to the Kingdom. This meeting is part of the 15th High-Level Morocco-France Meeting, aimed at accelerating bilateral cooperation in several strategic sectors.
A Parliamentary Diplomacy at the Service of Strategic Partnership
During the discussions, Lahcen Haddad emphasized that this visit reflects the shared desire of both countries to enhance dialogue between their legislative institutions. He recalled that the relations between Morocco and France are based on strong historical ties and currently benefit from a new momentum under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the Moroccan official, parliamentary diplomacy has now become an essential lever to support the development of the strategic partnership and to bolster political consultation on major bilateral, regional, and international issues.
Progress in Institutional Exchanges
The discussions also highlighted the intensification of contacts between the parliamentary institutions of both countries. Recent visits by members of the House of Councillors to France and the European Parliament in Strasbourg were presented as initiatives that have contributed to strengthening political dialogue and aligning positions on several issues of mutual interest.
Both parties stressed the need to continue this dynamic through regular exchanges of legislative experiences, the development of parliamentary friendship groups, and the establishment of new consultation mechanisms.
Expanded Cooperation Across Several Sectors
Beyond institutional dialogue, Moroccan and French officials highlighted the numerous cooperation prospects available in the fields of economy, investment, energy transition, security, migration, education, culture, mobility, and territorial cooperation.
They noted that the quality of relations between the two countries primarily relies on the depth of the human, historical, and cultural ties that unite the Moroccan and French peoples.
Toward New Joint Initiatives
At the conclusion of this meeting, both delegations expressed their willingness to continue strengthening parliamentary cooperation through the launch of joint initiatives, intensifying exchanges of expertise, and increased coordination on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting also brought together several personalities, including the French Minister for Overseas Territories, Naïma Moutchou, Deputy Karim Ben Cheikh, Senator Christian Cambon, President of the France-Morocco Friendship Group, as well as the Consul General of France in Rabat, Olivier Ramadour.
The representatives of both countries concluded their discussions by reaffirming their commitment to strengthening a parliamentary partnership that is set to sustainably accompany the evolution of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic.
