Turkish president names new justice and interior ministers
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has appointed new justice and interior ministers through presidential decrees published in the Official Gazette on Tuesday, signaling a significant change within the country’s cabinet.
Under the newly issued decrees, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akin Gurlek has been named minister of justice, replacing Yilmaz Tunc. Meanwhile, Erzurum Governor Mustafa Ciftci has been appointed minister of the interior, taking over the position previously held by Ali Yerlikaya.
The announcements were made formally in the state’s Official Gazette without additional explanation regarding the reasons behind the changes.
Cabinet adjustments in Türkiye are typically carried out by presidential decree under the executive powers granted to the head of state. Such reshuffles can reflect administrative restructuring, political strategy or shifting policy priorities.
The justice and interior ministries play central roles in the country’s governance. The justice ministry oversees the judiciary and legal framework, while the interior ministry is responsible for domestic security, law enforcement and local administration.
Observers will be closely watching whether the appointments signal new policy directions, particularly in areas related to judicial reform, public security and internal governance.
