Zelensky in London: A key meeting focused on the U.S. peace proposal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected in London this Monday for a high-level diplomatic meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. At the center of the agenda is the peace proposal recently presented by the United States, which aims to outline a long-term security framework for Ukraine once the conflict comes to an end.

According to British media, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will also attend the discussions. The talks will take place at 10 Downing Street in a small-group format bringing together Ukraine’s most influential European partners.

The meeting is intended to assess the status of ongoing negotiations between American and Ukrainian officials. The goal is to establish concrete security guarantees for Ukraine while laying the groundwork for potential diplomatic breakthroughs. Just two weeks ago, the four leaders joined a virtual session of the “coalition of volunteers,” during which they examined the possibility of deploying a European peacekeeping mission should a ceasefire be reached.

On Friday, U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators emphasized that achieving “real progress” toward an agreement largely depends on Russia’s willingness to engage in a credible path toward lasting peace. This remains a fundamental factor in defining any future settlement.

In its newly released national security strategy, the White House reaffirmed its strong support for Ukraine, stressing the importance of ensuring the country’s survival as a “viable state.” The document also highlights the need to restore strategic stability with Moscow, described as essential for ending the conflict and preventing further escalation.

With tensions running high both on the battlefield and in diplomatic corridors, the London meeting is viewed as a crucial moment to align positions and clarify the intentions of the nations involved.
