UM6P launches New York hub to connect African innovation with global ecosystems
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has inaugurated its second US-based global hub in New York, a move aimed at strengthening connections between Africa’s talent and global innovation ecosystems. This initiative follows the establishment of UM6P’s first US hub in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The New York hub is designed to foster collaborations between African startups, researchers, and students with leading academic, entrepreneurial, and industrial institutions worldwide. The platform will enable joint research projects, academic exchanges, and the adaptation of American innovations for African contexts.
Advancing Africa’s innovation ecosystem
UM6P President Hicham El Habti emphasized that the hub represents a commitment to building sustainable collaboration between Africa and the world’s leading innovation ecosystems. “This initiative acts as a two-way bridge, giving African startups access to venture capital, technology networks, and industrial expertise in North America,” El Habti explained.
The hub also seeks to serve as a platform for training and connecting African entrepreneurs with the US innovation and entrepreneurship landscape.
Strategic partnerships
UM6P has existing collaborations with prestigious US institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Arizona State University, and Columbia Business School. The New York hub is expected to deepen these partnerships while creating new opportunities for African students and researchers.
Director General of the US Global Hub, Mehdi El Khatib, highlighted the significance of this milestone, stating, “This reflects our dedication to building bridges that benefit African talent and foster sustainable development.”
Catalyzing sustainable development
Morocco’s ambassador to the US, Youssef Amrani, attended the inauguration, describing the hub as an investment in human capital and collaboration, which aligns with the broader goal of creating an open and diversified innovation ecosystem.
By connecting African talent with global resources, UM6P’s New York hub aims to play a pivotal role in Africa’s journey toward sustainable innovation and development.
