U.S. government to eliminate climate change information from official websites
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been directed to conduct a review and remove any content related to climate change from its public websites, according to internal communications obtained by the media.
Website administrators have been given a deadline to either archive or eliminate pages that reference climate change. The department’s Office of Communications (OC) is managing this effort and classifying the content into three urgency levels: "Tier 1" for pages primarily focused on climate change, "Tier 2" for pages where it is a significant part of the content, and "Tier 3" for pages where it is only briefly mentioned.
This directive follows a series of actions from the previous administration aimed at reversing climate policies, including the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and the promotion of fossil fuel production. The USDA, an entity historically engaged in climate research related to agriculture, has faced significant backlash for removing critical information regarding the impact of climate change on agriculture and rural communities.
