Three French tourists die in boat capsize off Oman coast

Three French tourists were killed and two others injured after a boat carrying 25 people capsized near Oman’s capital, Muscat, authorities reported Tuesday. The vessel, which included the tour guide and the captain, overturned about 2.5 nautical miles from Sultan Qaboos Port.

Omani police confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Officials said the incident resulted in three fatalities and minor injuries for two other passengers.

Oman, long overlooked by mainstream tourist circuits, has seen growing interest from travelers seeking natural landscapes and authentic experiences. In 2024, the country welcomed nearly four million visitors, and the government aims to triple that number by 2040, focusing on sustainable tourism.

Authorities emphasized maritime safety and urged both operators and tourists to follow strict guidelines to prevent future accidents.
