Germany Investigates Suspected Deliberate Car Attack Near Hanover That Injured Five
German police have detained three people following a suspected deliberate vehicle attack that injured at least five pedestrians in Neustadt am Rübenberge, near Hanover in the northern state of Lower Saxony. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday, when a BMW struck a group of people. Authorities reported a range of injuries, from minor to serious, but confirmed that none of the victims was in a life-threatening condition.
Police announced the arrests on Tuesday, explaining that the three suspects were apprehended at the address of the vehicle's registered owner. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the possible involvement of each individual.
Officers who were carrying out a traffic check nearby attempted to stop the BMW by firing at it. Despite the intervention, the vehicle's occupants reportedly managed to escape, leaving the car behind at the scene.
