Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail: Jet Contractors Secures Major Station-Building Contract
Moroccan construction company Jet Contractors has secured a contract worth approximately MAD 437.6 million, excluding taxes, to build five railway stations along the Benguerir-Marrakech corridor. The project forms part of Morocco’s wider plan to extend its high-speed rail network and improve regional transport connections.
The contract was awarded by the National Office of Railways (ONCF) as part of the development of the future Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed railway line. The investment covers one high-speed rail station and four stations serving the planned regional express network.
According to the published tender results, Jet Contractors submitted a winning bid of MAD 437.58 million before taxes. The amount exceeds the ONCF’s initial cost estimate of approximately MAD 385.24 million by around 13.6%.
Where will the five stations be built?
The project covers several locations between Benguerir and Marrakech, with infrastructure designed to accommodate both high-speed and regional passenger services.
The planned facilities include:
-
Benguerir Green City: A station dedicated to high-speed rail services.
-
Benguerir Green City: A second station serving the future regional express network.
-
Sidi Bou Othmane: A regional railway station intended to improve local transport connections.
-
Sidi Ghanem: Another regional station along the corridor.
-
Marrakech Grand Stadium: A railway facility designed to support access to the major sporting venue.
Together, these stations are expected to contribute to a more integrated transport network, linking long-distance rail services with regional mobility needs.
The construction contract covers the development of the stations and associated facilities. The works are part of the broader infrastructure required to accommodate the expansion of railway services between northern and central Morocco and the country's southern tourist hub.
A strategic component of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line
The new contract represents another step in the development of the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail project, which is intended to extend the existing high-speed network farther south.
Morocco launched its first high-speed railway service, Al Boraq, in 2018, connecting Tangier with Rabat and Casablanca. The planned extension towards Marrakech is expected to strengthen connections between major urban centres and expand the role of rail in domestic travel.
The project also fits into the country's broader transport modernisation strategy ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Improved railway access could prove particularly important for cities receiving large numbers of visitors, as well as for residents who depend on public transport for business, education and everyday travel.
Jet Contractors expands its railway portfolio
The contract further consolidates Jet Contractors' position in Morocco's infrastructure sector. The company has already been involved in construction works associated with the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail project.
In March 2026, it also secured a separate contract valued at approximately MAD 415.5 million, excluding taxes, for construction of the future railway station serving the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane.
These projects illustrate the growing opportunities available to Moroccan construction companies as the country invests in railways, major sporting facilities and other strategic infrastructure.
For Jet Contractors, the latest award adds another significant project to its portfolio while reinforcing its participation in the expansion of the national railway network.
A wider investment programme worth MAD 96 billion
The five-station contract forms part of a broader railway investment programme estimated at MAD 96 billion. The strategy encompasses infrastructure development, fleet renewal and improvements to existing railway services.
Of this amount, approximately MAD 53 billion is earmarked for infrastructure and equipment associated with the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line. A further MAD 29 billion is allocated to the acquisition of 168 new trains, while MAD 14 billion is intended to support the maintenance and sustainability of the existing network.
The programme reflects Morocco's ambition to increase railway capacity, improve connections between cities and provide transport infrastructure capable of meeting future demand.
As construction advances, the five new stations will represent an important component of the planned railway expansion between Benguerir and Marrakech, supporting the development of both high-speed and regional passenger services.
