PSG Star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery in Doha
Paris Saint-Germain forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has successfully undergone surgery for a serious right knee injury, marking the beginning of a rehabilitation process that could keep the Georgian international out of action for several months.
The French club confirmed on Tuesday, October 27, that the 25-year-old winger had undergone surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The procedure took place at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha, Qatar, according to the club's medical update.
PSG said Kvaratskhelia would now begin his rehabilitation. However, the club has not announced an expected date for his return to competitive football, leaving uncertainty over his availability for the remainder of the 2026–2027 season.
Barcelona Victory Comes at a Cost for PSG
Kvaratskhelia sustained the injury during Paris Saint-Germain's 4–2 victory over FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on October 20.
The winger was forced off after a challenge involving Barcelona defender Xavi Espart. His inability to put weight on his right leg raised immediate concerns, which were subsequently confirmed by medical examinations revealing the extent of the ligament damage.
Although PSG secured an important European victory, the injury represents a significant setback for the club as it seeks to maintain its position among the continent's leading teams.
Kvaratskhelia joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and quickly became an important component of the Parisian side's attacking options. His ability to operate on either wing, create scoring opportunities and challenge defenders one-on-one has made him a valuable presence in the squad.
PSG Faces Additional Injury Concerns
Kvaratskhelia's absence adds to the club's medical concerns following the Barcelona encounter. Two other key players, forward Ousmane Dembélé and captain Marquinhos, also sustained injuries during the match.
Dembélé suffered an injury to his left thigh, while Marquinhos sustained damage to his right thigh. PSG previously indicated that both players would require treatment over several weeks, although the club did not provide precise return dates.
The simultaneous absence of three important players could place additional demands on head coach Luis Enrique as the team navigates its domestic commitments and European campaign.
The coaching staff will need to assess available attacking and defensive options while managing the physical demands on the remaining squad members.
Rehabilitation Will Determine Kvaratskhelia's Return
An anterior cruciate ligament rupture is among the more serious injuries encountered in professional football. Recovery generally involves an extended rehabilitation period designed to restore knee stability, strength and mobility before a player can safely return to high-intensity competition.
The precise timeline varies according to the severity of the injury, the individual's response to treatment and progress through successive rehabilitation stages.
For PSG, the priority will be supporting Kvaratskhelia's recovery without rushing his return. The club has yet to establish a public timetable for his comeback, making it too early to determine exactly how many matches he will miss.
The successful operation provides an important first step, but the Georgian forward now faces a demanding period of rehabilitation as he works toward returning to the pitch.
