Tesla begins production of Cybercab robotaxi, says Elon Musk

Tesla has begun production of its long-awaited autonomous robotaxi, known as the Cybercab, according to its chief executive Elon Musk.

Musk announced the milestone on social media platform X, sharing a short promotional video with the caption stating that production of the Cybercab has officially started. The footage shows the vehicle leaving the production line and operating on public roads without a driver, highlighting Tesla’s progress in autonomous driving technology.

The Cybercab, first introduced in 2024, is designed as a fully self-driving vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals. At the time of its unveiling, Tesla projected that it could enter the market within a few years, as the company continues to develop advanced artificial intelligence systems for transportation.

The announcement comes shortly after Tesla reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results, with the company also confirming plans to scale up production of both the Cybercab and its electric freight vehicle, the Tesla Semi.

In addition to production plans, Tesla has already begun limited testing of robotaxi services in select locations, including early access trials in Austin, Texas. These pilot programs aim to evaluate safety and performance in real-world conditions.

Industry analysts say the launch marks a significant step in the evolution of autonomous mobility, although regulatory approval and safety concerns remain key challenges before large-scale commercial deployment.
