TD Bank posts profit jump on strong interest income
Toronto-Dominion Bank, one of Canada’s major financial institutions, reported a significant increase in its quarterly profit, driven mainly by stronger interest income supported by a stable domestic economy.
The bank, officially known as Toronto-Dominion Bank, benefited from higher earnings in its lending activities as interest rates and credit demand remained favorable in key Canadian markets.
For the second quarter, TD Bank posted an adjusted net income of approximately C$4.17 billion, compared with C$3.63 billion in the same period last year. Earnings per share also rose, reflecting improved operational performance and sustained revenue growth.
The results highlight the bank’s resilience amid global economic uncertainties, with its Canadian retail operations playing a central role in supporting profitability. Strong interest income continued to offset pressures from a competitive financial environment.
Analysts note that TD Bank’s performance reflects broader trends in the Canadian banking sector, where higher interest rates have supported revenue growth despite economic headwinds.
