Tangier authorities unveil stadium access portal ahead of AFCON reopening

Local authorities in Tangier have launched an innovative digital portal, "Accès Stade," designed to simplify access to the newly renovated Grand Stade de Tanger. The platform, introduced by Tanja Mobilité, offers real-time updates on transportation options, parking facilities, and traffic diversions during major sporting events. This initiative comes as the stadium prepares to host the Morocco-Mozambique match on November 14, which marks the completion of 28 months of extensive modernization.

Streamlining access for spectators

The "Accès Stade" platform centralizes key information to ensure spectators can reach the stadium seamlessly. With a user-friendly interface, the site provides details on public parking zones near the stadium and direct routes from major highways. A free shuttle bus service has also been introduced to connect spectators to the venue on event days.

Shuttle buses will operate from designated parking areas, including Route de Rabat, La Corniche, Merkala, Riad Tétouan, and the high-speed train (LGV) station. The service will run from 3:00 p.m. on match days, facilitating round-trip transportation for ticket holders. Additionally, the portal offers alternative routes for motorists to ease congestion around the stadium during peak hours and highlights traffic diversions coordinated with local authorities.

A world-class venue ready for AFCON

Tangier’s Grand Stade has undergone a remarkable transformation to meet international standards for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025. Originally inaugurated in 2011 as Ibn-Batouta Stadium, the venue now boasts a seating capacity exceeding 75,000 and has had its athletics track removed to enhance the spectator experience. The stadium's upgrades also align with Morocco’s preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

During AFCON 2025, the stadium will host several key matches, including three Group D games featuring Senegal, Botswana, DR Congo, and Benin. It will also serve as the stage for an eighth-final, a quarter-final, and a semi-final. The tournament, scheduled from December 21 to January 18, is expected to draw significant global attention to Morocco.

Final touches ahead of the grand reopening

In the lead-up to the Morocco-Mozambique match, final preparations at the stadium have been completed. Technical teams have conducted thorough checks on lighting, sound systems, and stage equipment, ensuring all installations are in place. The natural turf has been meticulously maintained, and dozens of high-definition cameras have been positioned to capture every moment of the games. The venue is equipped with light displays, giant screens, and music performance setups, promising an unforgettable opening ceremony.

Tangier’s revamped stadium stands as a testament to Morocco’s commitment to delivering world-class sports infrastructure, setting the stage for a historic tournament.
