Syria's president blames Israel for national instability amid internal conflict
Syrian interim President Ahmed Al Sharaa has leveled serious accusations against Israel, claiming the nation is intentionally destabilizing Syria by exacerbating internal conflicts. This assertion follows recent strikes by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) on Damascus, which have heightened tensions in the region.
In a speech delivered early Thursday, Al Sharaa expressed concern over Israel's actions, suggesting that they aim to sow discord within Syria, particularly in the southern province of Sweida. He claimed that Israel has a long history of undermining Syrian unity since the fall of the previous regime, now seeking to turn the nation into a "chaotic arena."
Al Sharaa accused Israel of exploiting existing divisions within Syria to thwart reconstruction efforts and impede the country's progress toward stability. He stated, "The Israeli entity... creates discord among us," emphasizing that such tactics are aimed at disrupting Syria's transition.
The interim president pointed out that the IOF's interventions complicate the situation further, leading to escalated violence. He noted that, without effective mediation from American, Arab, and Turkish entities, the situation could spiral into widespread conflict.
Addressing the ongoing clashes in Sweida between Druze forces and Bedouin tribes, which prompted government intervention, Al Sharaa reiterated that preserving national unity and safety is paramount for the Syrian state. He affirmed that the rights of all citizens should be safeguarded by law and justice.
A ceasefire was reportedly reached between the Druze community and the government following the recent violence, amidst Israel's vows to protect the Druze population.
