Patient assault at Shimla hospital sparks outrage and official probe

A disturbing incident at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla has drawn widespread condemnation after a doctor allegedly assaulted a patient inside the government-run facility. The allegations have ignited protests among hospital staff and the public, demanding accountability and swift disciplinary action.

According to reports, the altercation occurred on Sunday within one of the hospital’s wards, where the doctor is said to have physically attacked a patient during an argument. Video footage of the incident circulating on social media has intensified public anger, raising questions about professional conduct and patient safety within public healthcare institutions.

State Health Minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil responded swiftly to the controversy, assuring that a strict inquiry has been launched. He stated that appropriate measures would be taken once the investigation concludes, emphasizing that such behavior undermines trust in the healthcare system and will not be tolerated.

The hospital administration has reportedly begun an internal probe while authorities work to verify the details surrounding the incident. The state’s health department has urged calm among staff and the public while ensuring transparency throughout the inquiry process.

The episode has reignited debate over workplace stress in the medical sector and the need for stronger disciplinary protocols in state-run hospitals across India.
