Swedish Firm Trelleborg Breaks Ground on Aerospace Facility in Morocco
Trelleborg, a Swedish manufacturer of industrial machinery, commenced the construction of a new aerospace sealing systems factory in Nouaceur, a region in northwestern Morocco. The $10.2 million project is expected to create 150 to 200 jobs and aligns with Morocco's broader goals to integrate further into the global aerospace supply chain as part of the Industrial Acceleration Plan.
Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour attended the groundbreaking ceremony, emphasizing the plant's strategic significance. "This facility will fast-track Morocco’s integration into the global aerospace supply chain, enhance the competitiveness of local suppliers, and generate skilled jobs," Mezzour said. He noted that the collaboration between Trelleborg and Morocco stems from agreements made at the 2024 Marrakech Air Show, marking a major step in expanding Morocco’s ties with Swedish aerospace firms and strengthening partnerships with companies like Boeing.
Trelleborg’s Aerospace Business Unit President Gordon Roper highlighted the increasing global demand for new aircraft, projecting the need for 45,000 new planes by 2030, driven by fleet renewals and the growth of global trade and tourism. He expressed confidence in Morocco’s resources and workforce, which have supported the company’s expansion. "The groundbreaking here in Casablanca is a critical milestone for Trelleborg Aerospace," Roper stated.
Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi, president of the Midparc Industrial Zone, pointed out Morocco’s competitive advantages, including renewable energy sources and efficient land use, especially in the Sahara region. However, he also acknowledged challenges in waste management and recycling, stressing the importance of a circular economy for reinforcing Morocco's energy sovereignty and sustainability.
The new plant builds on Trelleborg’s existing operations in Morocco, including an automotive manufacturing facility in Kenitra. Founded in 1905, Trelleborg operates in more than 40 countries and serves industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical, and general manufacturing. The company reported a revenue of EUR 2.99 billion in 2023.
