With just a few months left before the 2027 French presidential election, the lines on the left are beginning to take shape. Yannick Jadot announced his support "without hesitation" for Raphaël Glucksmann, following the latter's announcement of his candidacy for the presidential election.

The ecological senator explained on France Inter that he is convinced that the European deputy is the candidate best able to unite part of the left around a common political project. He will also be tasked with working on the establishment of a "state of ecological emergency" in Glucksmann's program.

Support that Strengthens Glucksmann's Candidacy

Raphaël Glucksmann officially announced his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election on Sunday evening. He intends to participate in the social-democratic primary scheduled for October, organized notably by the Socialist Party and Place publique, his own movement.

Yannick Jadot's support comes at a strategic moment. As a former ecological candidate for the presidency, the senator has political and electoral experience that can help broaden the audience for Place publique's candidate beyond his current base.

Jadot sees this candidacy as an opportunity to bring together several priorities traditionally championed by the left: social justice, ecological transition, democracy, and European construction.

Ecology at the Heart of the Project

The mission assigned to Yannick Jadot also reflects the desire to give significant importance to environmental issues in Raphaël Glucksmann's program.

The former ecological candidate will thus have to help define a "state of ecological emergency," an expression that could become one of the programmatic markers of the campaign.

However, Jadot's rallying does not mean that the French left is now unified. Several candidacies or potential candidacies remain in circulation, while the power dynamics between the different political families remain uncertain.

Raphaël Glucksmann will therefore have to transform these initial supports into electoral momentum and convince beyond his traditional electorate.

For Yannick Jadot, the choice is now clear: rather than presenting a new ecological candidacy, he is betting on Glucksmann to try to build a left alternative capable of qualifying and asserting itself in the 2027 presidential election.
