Sudden ground collapse causes road subsidence in Tangier’s Al Alia district

A sudden ground collapse struck the Al Alia district of Tangier on Friday evening, causing part of a public road to sink near an ongoing residential construction site. The incident prompted the deployment of local authorities and sparked concern among residents about the possibility of further damage.

According to initial reports, a large cavity opened in the middle of the roadway following the collapse. No injuries were recorded among pedestrians or motorists. Authorities immediately secured the area and restricted access to ensure public safety and prevent additional risks.

Local sources suggest that excavation works carried out at the nearby construction site may have contributed to the incident. Deep digging or failure to comply with technical safety standards could have weakened the soil, leading to the sudden subsidence.

Following the collapse, the area was placed under reinforced preventive measures. Monitoring teams were dispatched to assess ground stability and ensure that no activity could worsen the situation.

Technical services are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the exact causes of the ground failure. A detailed report on the extent of the damage to the road infrastructure will also be prepared, ahead of repair work and measures designed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
