Sudanese army advances in Kordofan amid clashes with RSF

The Sudanese army has made further advances in North and West Kordofan, intensifying clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as the conflict in the country enters its third year. Military sources report that fighting has been particularly fierce in the strategic Um Samima area, located about 50 kilometers west of El-Obeid, linking North and West Kordofan.

According to officials, government forces have carried out operations using both heavy and light weapons, while also advancing along the corridor west of Al-Khuwayyi in West Kordofan, approximately 100 kilometers from El-Obeid. Analysts suggest these movements could signal a push toward the RSF-controlled Darfur region, where the militia currently holds all five states.

The RSF has also reported successes in North Kordofan, including in the Jabal Abu Sunun, Jabal Issa, and Al-Ayyara areas. The militia previously seized El-Fasher on October 26, with reports of civilian massacres in the aftermath.

Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a devastating conflict between the national army and the RSF, resulting in thousands of deaths and millions of displaced civilians. The ongoing fighting has created one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world, with urgent needs for food, shelter, and medical assistance.

As clashes continue, both sides appear determined to consolidate control over key territories, while international observers call for dialogue and efforts to protect civilians amid escalating violence.
