Sudan: first commercial flight lands in Khartoum after nearly three years
The Sudanese capital, Khartoum, welcomed its first commercial flight in almost three years on Sunday, marking a symbolic return to normalcy after prolonged conflict in the country. The flight, operated by the national carrier Sudan Airways, traveled from Port Sudan on the Red Sea to Khartoum International Airport.
The resumption of domestic flights comes after the civil war severely disrupted the country’s transportation network. Among the passengers on this inaugural flight was Prime Minister Kamil Idris, highlighting the event’s political and symbolic significance.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Sudan announced the operation in an official statement, emphasizing that this flight represents a first step in restoring domestic air travel and connectivity across Sudan. Authorities hope that the move will gradually support economic activity and mobility for citizens in affected regions.
