Spain condemns Israeli strikes on Lebanon and reopens Tehran embassy
Spain has strongly condemned recent Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, accusing Israel of violating international law and a recently brokered two-week ceasefire. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares highlighted the attacks as reckless and illegal during a parliamentary address in Madrid.
Madrid has positioned itself as one of the most vocal Western critics of military actions in the region, including those involving the United States and Israel. Spain has even closed its airspace to any aircraft participating in the conflict, signaling its disapproval of ongoing military operations.
In a related diplomatic move, Spain announced the reopening of its embassy in Tehran. Albares emphasized that this step is intended to support peace efforts and strengthen diplomatic channels in the Middle East. “I’ve instructed our ambassador in Tehran to return and take up his post, reopening our embassy, and to contribute to peace from every possible quarter, including from the Iranian capital itself,” he said.
The reopening of the embassy coincides with Spain’s broader effort to encourage negotiations and stability in the region while firmly criticizing violations of international agreements. Analysts note that Spain’s stance reflects a growing European concern over escalating tensions and the need for diplomatic solutions in the Middle East.
