Sidi Ifni police seize 2,000 tons of hashish, dismantle illegal sea operation
Early Friday, National Security forces in Sidi Ifni intercepted a major international operation involving drug trafficking and illegal maritime migration. Authorities seized approximately 1,922 tons of hashish and detained seven individuals near a beach five kilometers from the city.
Key details of the operation
The operation uncovered a two-engine rubber boat equipped with gasoline containers and carrying fifty packages of hashish. The vessel appeared to be bound for Tiznit before being intercepted. The seven detainees are currently under judicial investigation, supervised by the public prosecutor, as authorities probe their involvement in organized cross-border criminal activities.
Increased security measures
The National Security statement emphasized that the operation reflects Morocco’s intensified efforts to dismantle criminal networks engaged in transnational crimes such as drug trafficking and illegal migration. Recent initiatives have included enhanced coastal surveillance, expanded patrols, and stronger collaboration between security agencies.
These measures aim to secure Morocco’s borders and disrupt criminal organizations before their activities impact inland communities. The successful Sidi Ifni operation underscores the country’s commitment to tackling international drug trafficking and maritime crime at its source.
