Moroccan engineer Aïssam Moujoud turns patented mobility innovation into global venture
Moroccan engineer and entrepreneur Aïssam Moujoud is demonstrating how international experience can be transformed into innovation with global reach while maintaining strong ties to his country of origin.
Based in France for more than two decades, Moujoud has developed Pickwheel, a patented mobility solution designed to improve productivity and ergonomics for professionals whose work requires them to move while keeping their hands free. His long-term ambition extends beyond commercial success: he hopes to contribute to Morocco's expanding innovation ecosystem by sharing his expertise and entrepreneurial experience.
Moujoud relocated from Morocco to France in 2001 to pursue engineering studies before building a career in industrial design and product development. After several years in the engineering sector, he decided to launch his own company, transforming an unconventional concept into a patented technology with international protection.
At the heart of Pickwheel is a simple but distinctive idea. Unlike conventional personal mobility devices that rely on hand-operated controls, the system is driven using the user's feet, allowing both hands to remain available for work. The concept is intended to improve efficiency in professions where workers frequently move while simultaneously handling equipment or performing manual tasks.
The technology has applications across a wide range of sectors, including cleaning services, private security, audiovisual production and other occupations requiring continuous mobility. By combining transportation and hands-free operation, Pickwheel aims to reduce physical strain while increasing operational flexibility.
Moujoud also sees the innovation as a tool for greater social inclusion. He believes the technology could offer new mobility solutions for people with disabilities, making accessibility and quality of life an integral part of the company's development strategy.
As Morocco continues to strengthen its position as a regional hub for entrepreneurship and technological innovation, Moujoud represents a growing generation of Moroccan professionals abroad seeking to connect international expertise with domestic economic development. His journey illustrates how innovation created overseas can ultimately contribute to the country's broader ambitions in research, industry and advanced technology.
