Road accident in China kills eight people, including children
A tragic road accident in eastern China claimed the lives of eight people, including several children, after a sport utility vehicle plunged into a pond, according to state media reports released on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Pengze County, a rural area located around 480 kilometers west of Shanghai. The vehicle, a seven-seat SUV, was reportedly driven by a 49-year-old kindergarten director and was commonly used to transport children enrolled in a private preschool. Several children were on board at the time of the accident.
According to Xin Anquan, a media outlet affiliated with the official People’s Daily, the crash happened on a downhill stretch of road that may have been made slippery by recent rainfall, contributing to the loss of control.
Local authorities confirmed that all eight occupants died in the accident but did not disclose further details about the victims. An official investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The accident has once again raised concerns about road safety in rural regions and the transportation conditions of young children.
