Nine killed in Pennsylvania shooting, including two children and a pregnant woman

Nine people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were killed in a shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, according to local authorities. Governor Josh Shapiro described the incident as a tragic act of random violence, as officials began investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The shooting occurred late Friday night, according to a statement released by local authorities on Saturday. Preliminary findings indicated that all nine victims had died before police officers arrived at the scene.

Erie Police Chief Rick Lauer identified the suspect as a 45-year-old man who was related to seven of the victims. Authorities have not provided further details in the available report about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or a possible motive.

In a post on X, Shapiro said he had spoken with Erie Mayor Daria Devlin and confirmed that his administration was ready to provide the city and affected families with any necessary support following the tragedy.

The deaths have left the local community facing the aftermath of a devastating incident involving multiple members of the same family. Investigators are expected to establish the sequence of events and gather further evidence as the case develops.

The shooting has once again drawn attention to the impact of gun violence on communities across the United States. The investigation remains central to determining what led to the attack and clarifying the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the nine victims.
