Pro-paramilitary authorities claim responsibility for drone strikes in Khartoum region

Pro-paramilitary civil authorities in Sudan claimed responsibility on Tuesday for a series of drone attacks that struck military sites, an oil refinery, and a power station in the Khartoum region.

The coalition known as Tasis, which declared a self-styled “government” in August in territories controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), said its “air force” carried out the strikes. In a statement, the group hailed the operations as “precise and targeted” actions against military and logistical infrastructure.

The RSF has been locked in a brutal conflict with Sudan’s regular army since April 2023, a war that has devastated Khartoum and displaced millions of people across the country. Both sides have been accused of committing atrocities, including indiscriminate shelling of residential neighborhoods and attacks on vital infrastructure.

Independent verification of Tuesday’s strikes remains difficult, but local sources reported explosions in several districts of the capital. Humanitarian organizations warn that such attacks risk worsening already dire conditions, with civilians facing shortages of electricity, water, and medical supplies.

International mediators have repeatedly called for a ceasefire, but negotiations remain stalled as both the army and the RSF continue to fight for control of Sudan’s capital and other key regions.
