Over 61,000 New Businesses Created in Morocco by August 2024

Morocco has witnessed an impressive surge in entrepreneurial activity, with over 61,000 new businesses established by August 2024, according to the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC). The report highlights a remarkable growth in the business landscape, with a total of 61,178 new businesses registered across various sectors.

Of the new entities, 44,261 were corporate structures, while 16,917 were sole proprietorships. The commercial sector dominated the creation of new businesses, accounting for 34.64% of the total. Other prominent sectors included construction and public works (19.16%), miscellaneous services (18.77%), transport (7.97%), and industry (7.32%). The hospitality industry, including hotels and restaurants, saw 5.66% of the new business registrations, followed by information technology and communications (2.78%), financial activities (2.09%), and agriculture and fishing (1.61%).

The Casablanca-Settat region emerged as the leading area for new business creation, registering 19,361 businesses by the end of August. This was followed by Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, with 8,741 businesses, and Marrakech-Safi, which saw 7,124 new enterprises. Rabat-Sale-Kénitra followed closely with 7,035 new businesses. Other regions contributing to the national growth included Fes-Meknes (4,232), Souss-Massa (4,099), the Oriental region (3,578), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (2,376), Béni Mellal-Khenifra (1,801), Draa-Tafilalet (1,375), Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab (965), and Guelmim-Oued Noun (491).

In terms of legal structure, the report indicates that single-member limited liability companies (SARL AU) were the most popular choice, representing 64.9% of new businesses, while limited liability companies (SARL) accounted for 34.5%.

This positive trend in business creation underscores Morocco’s growing entrepreneurial spirit, providing a promising outlook for the country’s economic development.
