National Theatre Festival closes sixth edition in homage to Lemgaddar

The sixth edition of the National Theatre Festival closed at the Cultural Complex of Hay Mohammadi in Casablanca with a ceremony dedicated to Farid Lemgaddar. The event brought together theatre professionals, artists, media representatives, and the public around a programme that reflected the diversity of Moroccan stage creation. The edition was dedicated to Lemgaddar, marking a central moment of recognition at the final stage of the festival.

The opening of the festival had already featured tributes to Saâdia Azgoun and Abderrahim El Maniari. Organisers used these moments to highlight figures who contributed to the development and visibility of Moroccan theatre. The programme went beyond commemoration and focused on contemporary production. Theatre troupes from different backgrounds presented varied performances that reflected different writing styles, aesthetics, and approaches to stage direction.

The choice of Hay Mohammadi as the host district reinforced the festival’s proximity-based approach. The cultural complex became a meeting point for creators and audiences throughout the event. Performances attracted steady public attendance and encouraged interaction between spectators and artists. The diversity of the shows helped strengthen interest in national theatre production and confirmed the role of local cultural spaces in supporting artistic circulation.

The closing ceremony positioned the festival as both a tribute platform and a space for contemporary expression. The sixth edition highlighted continuity in Moroccan theatrical memory while also giving visibility to emerging and established voices. The event concluded with a focus on the living nature of theatre, shaped by multiple artistic languages and sustained by ongoing creative exchange.
