Morocco to Host Key FAO African Agriculture Conference, Fostering Resilient Partnerships
Agricultural leaders convened today as Morocco and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) solidified plans to jointly organize a crucial conference addressing the future of food systems across Africa.
A memorandum of understanding was signed, positioning Morocco to host the 33rd FAO Regional Conference for Africa, scheduled for April 2022. Minister of Agriculture Mohammed Sadiki and FAO Representative Jean Senahoun formalized the partnership, laying the groundwork for discussions around "Resilient agrifood systems and inclusive rural transformation."
Following the agreement signing, Minister Mohammed Sadiki expressed Morocco's commitment to sustainable and equitable food production on the continent. "We eagerly anticipate welcoming regional stakeholders to explore innovative, collaborative solutions aimed at strengthening agricultural resilience," he stated.
Mr. Senahoun commended Morocco's leadership in ensuring food security and development progress, underscoring the conference's significance. "This platform will facilitate an examination of current and emerging challenges facing African agriculture, with African stakeholders and solutions at the forefront," he noted.
The hybrid conference will feature virtual technical sessions in late March, followed by ministerial-level talks convening in Rabat through April 20. Representatives from FAO member states, UN agencies, and civil society will gather to address linguistically diverse priorities spanning finance, trade, environment, science, and health.
By hosting this high-level dialogue, Morocco aims to strengthen partnerships for building agricultural resilience on the continent. As climate impacts intensify, participants will collaborate to foster inclusive, sustainable food systems that support Africa's future.
