Spain and Portugal secure places in Nations League quarter-finals
Spain and Portugal have secured their places in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals after strong performances during the latest round of the group stage.
Spain confirmed their qualification with a perfect record, winning all four of their matches. Their results have placed them firmly at the top of their group and ensured their progression to the knockout stage, while England are closing in on the second qualification spot after collecting nine points.
Croatia remain third in the group with three points, while the Czech Republic are at the bottom without a point. England’s position gives them a strong chance of joining Spain in the quarter-finals, although the remaining fixtures will determine the final standings.
Portugal have also booked their place in the last eight after winning four consecutive matches. The European champions have maintained a perfect record in their group and have established themselves as one of the teams to have secured early qualification.
Denmark currently occupy second place in Portugal’s group with six points, while Wales and Norway have three points each. The battle for the remaining qualification position is therefore still open as the group stage approaches its decisive phase.
In another group, France lead the standings with 10 points after three victories. Italy are second with seven points, followed by Belgium on six, while Türkiye have yet to collect a point and have lost their chances of progressing.
The second group remains particularly competitive, with the Netherlands and Greece sharing the top of the table on eight points each. Germany are third with five points, while Serbia are at the bottom after suffering four defeats.
The Nations League format provides European national teams with competitive fixtures outside major tournament cycles, while also offering a route toward the later stages of the competition. The group stage is designed to determine which teams will advance to the knockout rounds based on their performances over a series of matches.
With Spain and Portugal already through, attention will now turn to the remaining qualification battles. England, France, Italy, Denmark and the leading teams in the second group will be looking to secure their places before the final group-stage matches are completed.
The quarter-finals will bring together the strongest teams from the group stage, setting the stage for a new round of high-profile European international fixtures and increasing the stakes as the competition moves toward its decisive stages.
