The 19th edition of the Mawazine Festival - Rhythms of the World has concluded in resounding success, boasting unforgettable performances, significant moments, and a record-breaking attendance that surpassed 2.5 million festival-goers. This year’s festival, held from June 20 to 29 in Rabat and Salé under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, has cemented its status as a premier global music event.

According to the Maroc Cultures Association, the festival attracted more than 2,500,000 attendees from both Morocco and around the globe. Music lovers from all walks of life gathered to enjoy performances by over 200 artists across various stages in Rabat and Salé.

A Celebration of Global Music

The festival’s impressive attendance figures highlight Mawazine’s extraordinary international popularity. The Maroc Cultures Association emphasized that this year’s turnout further establishes Mawazine as one of the most attended music festivals worldwide. The festival’s inclusive, free, and value-driven model continues to receive widespread acclaim.

Over two weeks, Mawazine featured captivating performances from artists spanning the globe, showcasing the tremendous enthusiasm they inspire among the Moroccan public. The festival’s media presence was equally impressive, with over 800 journalists in attendance and more than 2,000 media mentions monthly, underscoring its importance on the artistic and cultural scene.

Digital Engagement and Global Reach

Maroc Cultures also highlighted Mawazine’s robust social media presence. The festival trended at the top of searches, reinforcing its global impact and reach. The participation of international influencers further confirmed Mawazine’s appeal to content creators eager to share the event’s vibrancy with their audiences.

Significantly, the 19th edition of Mawazine saw strengthened partnerships with global platforms such as Spotify and Tripadvisor. These collaborations amplified the festival’s reach and provided a stage for Moroccan talents to shine on an international scale.

Memorable Performances and Star Power

The festival was marked by numerous standout performances. Metro Booming’s masterful set, ATEEZ’s electrifying show, Central Cee’s stunning appearance in a traditional Moroccan jellaba, Burna Boy’s dynamic flow, Camila Cabello’s heartfelt connection with her audience, Calvin Harris’s pulsating beats, and Nicki Minaj’s triumphant performance at the OLM Souissi stage were among the highlights.

Nicki Minaj, whose concert drew approximately 200,000 people, expressed her pride and joy on Instagram, sharing photos and noting, “It’s been one of my greatest experiences. Such an honor.”

Diverse Artistic Showcase

The Mohammed V National Theater was a hub of diversity, featuring a spectacular hologram performance by Oum Kalthoum, a stellar show by Samira Said, and appearances by renowned artists such as Carole Samaha, Marwan Khoury, Badr Rami, Gregory Porter, and Yuri Buenaventura. These artists captivated audiences, transforming the theater into a vibrant venue of dance and song.

The Nahda stage was equally dynamic, with rapper Balti’s engaging lyrics and Haifa Wehbe’s emotional performance. Balqees created an enduring bond with her audience by performing iconic Moroccan songs, and the stage also saw energetic performances by Ahmed Saad, Mohamed Ramadan, Douzi, and Aminux.

Moroccan artists Najat Aatabou, Saida Charaf, Zina Daoudia, Fatima Tabaamrant, Muslim, Said Senhaji, Abdelaziz Stati, Hamid Kassri, and Mocci shone in Salé, showcasing the richness and diversity of the national music scene to enthusiastic fans.

At the Bouregreg stage, world rhythms were celebrated with performances by iconic figures such as OMAH LAY, James BKS, Nana Benz from Togo, Fatoumata Diawara, and Angélique Kidjo. Artists like La fève, Didi B, Luidji, Yamé, Ayra Starr, and Too Fan connected deeply with their Moroccan audience, often inviting fans on stage to join in the performances.

A Triumphant Conclusion

The Maroc Cultures Association lauded the collective effort that made Mawazine 2024 a triumph, marking a new, memorable chapter in the festival’s history. The festival’s success underscores its significance as a cultural cornerstone, bringing together diverse audiences to celebrate the universal language of music.
